I love this book so much!!! Alice Wong is truly an indelible force - her work through the Disability Visibility project has had a deep & widespread impact. I admire her devotion to storytelling and making space for disabled voices to be heard. She is unapologetic and ambitious in her activism, but this memoir is about more than her work. We are also given a window into her friendships, childhood memories, educational journey, and love of food and cats. Also she is damn funny! The innovative format includes personal essays, interview transcripts, photographs, memes, texting/Twitter threads, recipes, fun graphics, and thought-provoking artwork. Highly recommend to disabled & non-disabled readers alike!

Absolutely INCREDIBLE. I appreciate everything about Alice Wong, but especially her commitment to telling a disabled truth. When I read her work, I feel seen, held, cared for, and cherished in a way that doesn’t feel possible. Through her words, I am surrounded by the beauty of disability, and I’m reminded that I am cherished simply because I exist.

It meant so much to me to read this memoir by Alice Wong, an incredible activist who has a similar disability to my own. Her perspective is so important and I think this book is one of the best portrayals of the challenges and triumphs of disabled life.

I really appreciated that Wong was writing what she wanted to write and how she wanted to write, rather than catering to an audience (and that was made clear early on). The mix of different formats throughout the book (articles, interviews, essays, speeches) made the book feel varied and kept me engaged. Wong has lived a fascinating life and I appreciate how much she shared. I didn't know anything about her work prior to reading this and I'm excited to learn more about everything she has done.

Access is love! I appreciate that Alice wrote her story down, and love her ability to educate without taking crap from anyone. She tells it how it is! It got a little difficult to follow the interviews and short stories format on audiobook- I think I would recommend in print more!

Really good read! Getting to know Alice through this book was enlightening and fun! There’s a ridiculous amount I didn’t know about all the issues that disabled people face in everyday life, government, and the part about plastic straws really changed my mind. Everyone should give this book a read!

This was also my last prompt for the PopSugar 2022 challenge! Yay!

It takes a lot for me to laugh out loud at a book, and this one made it happen multiple times. I love memoirs, but Alice’s use of blog posts, art, podcast transcripts, and typical musings being balled up to make a full story of her life was absolutely genius and I’d love to see more memoirs formatted as such. Highly recommending this one to anyone that needs to have their mind expanded on living as a disabled American, with all the nuances that other identities imbue in that main classification.
