This collection of essays really drives home how the personal and political are intertwined. I could've done with more Star Trek references though :)

I love Alice Wong so much! Her writing makes me feel like we are simply having a conversation. I loved hearing about her life, childhood, and how she grew to be the activist she is today.

By the disability activist and editor of “Disability Visibility,” Alice Wong gives us an intimate and genre-bending memoir. It’s full of snapshots, letters, calls to action, and opinion pieces, this is a great memoir and collection of stories about and for disability justice. 4.5/5 stars

Really really enjoyed this memoir, very thought provoking. At times, I felt the message was repeated too much so it took me longer to get through but overall loved it

I finished this book feeling invigorated. Alice’s story is powerful. She’s gone through a lot of heartache and strife, but she powers through it with a smile and a sassy comment. I absolutely loved this book. Alice has such a great voice that draws you in. I was fully engaged reading this book.

What matters more to me is how this book reframed some of my thoughts about disability. If you don’t know, I’m a UX designer and spent a solid year working in accessible design. Sometimes, accessible design felt more like a job than work that has impact. Reading this book reminded me why accessibility in the digital and physical spaces is important. This book also reminded me about the value of community and humanity and empathy. Accessibility impacts people. It’s not done for the legal reasons or the financial reasons but the people who use the websites or buildings you build. And that’s a damn good reminder.

I love Alice Wong and all the articles/books she’s written. Plus she’s so unapologetically herself

What a creative memoir. I learned new things about not only the author but also disability rights. Also, any memoir that comes with recipes AND a crossword puzzle is an automatic win in my book.

I’m a big fan of nonfiction essays and this was a really neat way to share her story with essays, podcast interviews, graphics, stories from her life, and more! Alice Wong us such a really cool person and fierce advocate. Some stuff in this one read slower than others and I kind of read around, but I would highly recommend this for memoir/nonfiction collections.
