I read the prequel in One and had to have this... I can't remember if I won this ARC or just got lucky, but here is my opinion.

Gracie and David have a unique bond, one they both hold dear. Their history is intertwined in a romantic and wonderful way. To see each other after so long... Their present relationship grows stronger and they do too.

Despite her fears about his job, Grace is so proud of the man he is. But when their lives become an empty shell of what they once were, where does it leave them? Can their love survive this tragedy?

The feels in this book are....WOW!
Ugly cry... expected
Tissues... a must
Hot firefighter calendar for eye candy...a suggestion
Reading this book...the best idea yet

I am a huge fan of Melissa Collins, and I really love her books. She always delivers such a beautiful and heartfelt story that I can't help but feel emotionally invested in. From the Wreckage was no different, and I was immediately drawn into it. I actually read her short prequel Before the Wreckage before starting, so I already had a little bit of an introduction to the characters here. It isn't necessary to read this book, but I do think that it adds to the experience.

When David and Grace were kids, David saved Grace's life after her home caught on fire. But after the fire her family moved away and her and David didn't see or talk to each other for eighteen years. When a night out at a bar with friends brings them together again, they know that they want to get to know one another again. The more time that Grace and David spend together the more their feelings grow. But when a tragedy changes everything for them, Grace and David realize that love sometimes isn't enough. Can they overcome the obstacles place in their way, or will there be too many things standing between them and forever?

I really liked Grace and David. These two didn't always have it easy, and they had so much that I felt like was thrown at them. The connection and love they shared was clear though, and I really felt like they were meant to be together. David reacted badly to some things that happened and I wasn't overly happy about it, but Grace did as well. The great thing about these two though was the fact that they were able to move forward fairly quickly. They both realized that they were jumping to conclusions and that they needed to trust each other. I was glad to see that they were able to learn how to trust and forgive each other, and find the strength they needed in the connection they shared.

I will say that there was a twist here that I didn't see coming at all. David and Grace had already found each other against all odds, and to see them have yet another thing to come back from was heartbreaking. I felt so badly for both of them, and it was hard to watch them each struggling. While I was glad that these two were able to see that the love between them would never die, I have to admit that I wasn't fully satisfied with the ending. I can't really say much as it would spoil a lot, but I felt like the ending was more bittersweet than I would have liked for these two. As much as I tried to accept it, I just didn't feel like it was enough for these two. Some of what I had loved so much about their relationship throughout this story felt lost and diminished because of how things played out. I still love Melissa Collins and her writing style, but I really wanted more from the ending here. I think that this book is a very emotional read though, and it is beautifully written. This book really was about true love always finding a way no matter what is thrown at it, and I was really glad that I got to read David and Grace's story.

I love Melissa Collins' M/M romances. In fact until From the Wreckage I'd only read those by her. That changes now. Never have I been so happy to see a backlist from an author.

I had a feeling going in to this book it was going to wreck me. And it did, in the best way. Grace and David's story is beautiful, inspiring and tragic all at the same time. But what really got me was the dedication and sentiment behind the story that inspired this author.

I don't think anyone who reads this book won't shed a few tears. And I don't think this story will leave me for a long time. Beautiful.

FROM THE WRECKAGE was one of those books that presented the "perfect" couple and then gave them a horrible situation to overcome. Given how "perfect" they had been before the situation, I wasn't certain what was going to happen now that they faced this huge obstacle. It may have come at the last 1/4 of the book, but what came out of that was proof that love can overcome some pretty horrible odds. David and Gracie proved that and it made this an incredibly heartwarming story to read.

Oh, Gracie and David…my heart hurts! Melissa pulled every emotion out of me in From the Wreckage. Love, sadness, lust, hope, pain, anger and more love. This is a love story. A story of the heart. A story that reminds us that the heart knows love more than the brain and the body. It recognizes when it's missing the other half. David saved Gracie from a fire when she was six years old and he was only ten. After that he knew he wanted to become a firefighter and dedicate his life to saving people. But, after he saved Gracie, her family moved away and he hasn't seen her in eighteen years! When they see each other again, it's like no time has passed. They just know they have to be together. They have get to know each other again. They fall in love quickly, but since they really loved each other years ago, it's not insta-love. David is sexy, funny and has a way with words. Grace is smart, beautiful and just a little bit vulnerable. Just when everything is perfect, tragedy strikes. David and Grace are forever changed. Can they rise from the ashes? Will they ever be the same? I loved this book! I pretty much cried for the entire second half. But, I also laughed out loud and fanned myself. These two are hot! I loved their best friends too. Awesome comic relief! And, of course, second chance love!

"Perfect." He catches one. "Dear God," she gasps, watching him run across the field. "That's it. I've run out of words. There aren't any left. He's rendered me speechless and you know that never happens."

"Desire." He steps closer still. "Need." One more step. "Hunger."

"Don't worry. I was wearing my I heart David Andrews t-shirt. You know the one that says 'He's a big strong scary fireman. Keep back 500 feet' on the back." I joke.

4 STARS!!!

This book was SOO GOOD!! I've read previous books by this author, but this GORGEOUS cover was the reason for drawing me to read it in the first place. The prologue sucked me in IMMEDIATELY!! I was on the edge of my seat. The rest of the story we got to see the relationship between Gracie and David grow.
I loved Gracie because she was very sweet and an avid book lover like me. David was a hot fireman. Both of them together were extremely cute.
I did cry in this book, but then again I cry in quite a few of them. ;) There was a twist I didn't expect, but it gave the story that extra thing it needed. I do recommend this book and am looking forward to reading more from this author.

If you cross paths with someone at an early age, do you forget them? If that person has a profound impact on your life and you never see them again, what do you do? Search for them? Pine for them? Forget they existed?

For David and Grace, that's kind of what happened. After knowing each other for a short time and surviving a tragedy as children, they won't see each other again for eighteen years.

A chance encounter leads them on their path of love and allows them to rediscover and learn what they lost during their time apart spanning nearly two decades.

“If you spend your life worrying about what could be, you’ll never leave yourself enough time to enjoy what is.”

Grace has never forgotten the boy that saved her life. He's always been in the back of her head, whether it's in her new firefighter romance book or a memory of years previous.

Saving Grace eighteen years prior molded David into the man he is in the present. He's amazing at his job and loves every minute of it. He's the good guy you want your parents to meet and be proud to know.

From the Wreckage is the latest complete standalone by Melissa Collins. Her contemporary story telling is on point time after time. David and Grace's story is one of love, loss and rebirth and it's an absolutely beautiful ride.

Didn't love this book. Felt a bit preachy at times. Good characters but not super engaging for me.

ARC received for an honest review

What a beautiful story of love, loss, survival.

I am glad that I did not read Ms Collins notes at the end of the book before reading, as I would have been a complete and total mess - more than I already was anyway.

Gracie and David's story is amazing. 18 years after he saved her as a child, their worlds once again collide. They have never been far from each other's minds, even though they have never seen each other since that time.

I just adored this story, from the first word to the last. Yes, it is a beautiful love story about reconnecting, but there was just so much more to it.

Would the future be enough for you if you can't remember the past?

Though events that occur, both past and present, we see so many sides of our lovelies, especially David. From David the fireman, to David the protector, the boyfriend, the lover. He is kinda swoon-worthy.

There is a little bit of everything in From The Wreckage. Some laughter and joy. Some sadness and loss. If you are anything like me, have your tissues handy, as there will be tears.

And please, when you get to the end of the story, go on and read the acknowledgements at the end. You will appreciate this story so much more when you read this.

Ms Collins, your Uncle David would be amazingly proud of you.
