This look into some of Obama’s experiences, important political agendas, thoughts, and into his general life is, of course, wonderful. He is clearly thoughtful and provides so many details, all of which contributes into making this book clear, interesting, and educational. I also appreciated his perspective on the state of politics and the trends he has observed leading into current events. I do wish that the events of the book extended further, but I understand that this was meant to cover his rise in politics and his first term as president.

Very long, but an interesting account of what it’s like to be President. He recalls not on,y the big occasions but also the every day world of his presidency

DID NOT FINISH

I stopped when i realised the futility of obstructive American politics.  It sat by my bedside for a long time, thinking I would continue it.  It sat in my "currently reading" GoodReads list for even longer! But eventually, I couldn't muster the energy and admitted defeat.

I've thought a lot about this book and the story it tells. This book proposes many ideas about what the purpose of the United States ought to be, who Barrack Obama is and how he sees himself, and how he sees his country. What he hoped and strived for in America. I think one of the main ideas I will try implementing from this book is that hope is an active choice that requires constant effort. Additionally that decency really matters and that people can make a difference. If I'm ever asked about this book I'm going to describe it as a long read, but a worthwhile one that takes you back to a place that will help you understand the world a little bit clearer and have a little more determination to help your fellow man.

Whoa what a ride. What a great man. So intelligent, thoughtful and human. I learned so much about politics, behind the scenes and the Obamas. Can’t wait for volume 2.
