Really enjoyed most of the stories. A LOT happens in these stories, so I highly recommend as a pre-rec for getting the full context of the next game. Also, it was (mostly) a good time. There was only one story I had to skim because I just did not vibe with the character and writing style, but I'd sat that's an excellent hit rate for such a chunky collection. I will say I was consistently frustrated by two things:

1. The Dragon Age team won't stop hiding Major Story Events in books. Inquisition didn't reeeaally detail the Major Pieces of Information that they hid in books that Absolutely would impact the way players approach key situations. There are pros and cons to this, but
they've now started, what, three wars offscreen?
It's getting a little ridiculous, so I hope the next game spends more time on context than inquisition did.

2. The dragon age series consistently attempts to tackle social issues like racism and systemic abuse etc etc and it is usually pretty clear that the writers are not particularly well informed on these issues. I remember it most in the first short story, where it was very very clear the writer had neither experienced racism nor done any real investigation into how it feels and how POC interact with racists who are hateful on main. It was uncomfortable to read.

As with other dragon age titles, it's a bit problematic, but also a very good genre-hopping time. There's a lot of horror in this one, and a lot of set pieces and characters that make me even more excited to see what they do with the next game =]
