i really enjoyed the historical aspect of this book and i learned a lot about Uganda and its treatment of Asian migrants back in the day. the writing style was beautiful, but the pacing was a little strange; parts 1 and 2 occur over vastly different lengths of time. i wanted more details about every single character, but there were just too many characters to really get to know any of them too deeply. as an American (cringe) it was a TINY bit difficult to keep track of all the different Indian names, so i wish there had been a family tree at the beginning of the book.
