I should’ve known the premise wasn’t for me but I thought it would be a fun read. It was probably 75% crazy sexcapades and 25% plot. For a doctor, Erin sure didn’t act like one. She felt more like the youth than Cassie at times. And I 100000% think Parker was way too kind and understanding LOL, god knows I would have been throwing punches. I think my biggest issue is I was not convinced by the relationship, and none of the supporting characters felt realistic to me either, so I was not invested at all.

While I appreciate a spicy romance, this story felt overly focused on the physical connection between the characters, leaving the emotional depth underdeveloped. The pacing of the plot was uneven, with too many slow moments and the central drama arriving late at around 60%, only to feel limited in its impact.
That said, the character growth for both Cassie and Erin was well executed, and the spicy scenes were well written, even if there were perhaps too many of them. Unfortunately, as a highly anticipated sapphic romance, it didn’t quite live up to its hype for me.

this was the first actual published book i have read in probably over 5 years. reading has always been difficult for me, i struggle to focus and then get irritated and give up when i have to reread paragraphs 5 times over to retain the information. this book… this book was the easiest thing i have ever read. and that’s a good thing, an amazing thing. it had me so captivated, so in love with it, that i literally had no issues focusing on it. i adored it. it was the perfect pace, the perfect story, just perfect all around. it has sparked a love for reading in me, a new passion for it. it has sparked motivation to continue, to keep trying to read. and i am so insanely ecstatic about it. so for that, thank you meryl. but trust you will be paying for what this story has done to me!!!
this book was recommended to me by my friends because, in their own words, i am “so cassie.” i am just a simple lesbian who is into older ladies who happen to have dark hair and bright eyes and a sharp jawline. i also suffer from blonde/brunette-itis (blonde/brunette sapphic couples) so i honestly was a goner right when i opened this book. and they were unfortunately so, so right. i am cassie. cassie is me.
i read this book with my best friend, and it brought us so much closer. literally changed our lives. we have bonded so heavily over it we’re now considering getting matching rocketship necklaces (which somehow led to considering getting matching rocketship tattoos). if you know, you know.
i have a fanart of carin (cassie/erin) as my lock screen on my phone and my desktop background on my laptop. the brainrot i have developed from this book is so severe my therapist AND psychiatrist both know about it. i have started WRITING about them, and i’m fully going to commission artists to draw them. i’m making sims of them. i’ve made a playlist for them. a pinterest board. they are everything to me. they’ve taken over my life. i cannot go more than 15 minutes without thinking about those two. another one of my friends told me i was in their dream talking about carin. their DREAM.
my friend kept a “cry count” for me as i was reading, and it turns out this book made me cry FIFTEEN (15) times. i was so overwhelmed with love for these two that even the happiest scenes made me sob my eyes out. but don’t let that scare you away! this book is perfect. it played out in my head like a movie. if you’re into sapphic age gaps, idiots to lovers, very mild angst with a happy ending, and spicy scenes… read this asap. and if you’re like me, fall deeply in love with erin and live vicariously through cassie.
here are some comments my friend made towards me as we were reading:
“i have… never met someone… who feels… as much as you do”
“sar, i feel clinically insane about this book which means you are gonna end up in a straitjacket being sedated every hour”
in conclusion, this book absolutely changed my life forever and i will never be the same. i need more. i’m not ready to let go. i wish i could read it for the first time again. please read this. i’m putting all my friends onto this so i can relive it through them.
and to meryl, thank you thank you thank you for this masterpiece and for changing my life and giving me a newfound love for reading, but also you will be paying for my therapy bills. thank you and god bless
