The third book in the series, and just as good as the first two. The challenges are greater and the consequences significant. Can Skandar persevere and overcome? An exciting and brilliant story; I can't wait for the next one!

Skandar and A F Steadman’s writing grow from strength to strength with each book in this series. In this exciting volume, we get to know each of the expanded cast that little bit more and Kenna’s POV chapters are a dark and brooding thrill to read. We get to explore Skandar’s relationships with the other islanders and of course with Scoundrel’s Luck, and as usual the races and magic are a cinematic experience of themselves.

A fantastic third book, Steadman has taken the characters further in this story. We see the quartet grow as friends and Skandar has to face some challenges along the way, not just the Chaos Trials. Absolutely brilliant, I cannot wait for book 4!

Small, slight spoilers for books 1 and 2 below so read on with caution...
Following the events of The Phantom Rider, Skandar and his sister Kenna are finally both together at the Eyrie training to be unicorn riders. But, not everyone is happy with the return of Spirit wielders and the even more unorthodox forged unicorn bond. Third year at the Eyrie also brings The Choas Trials, four elemental tests that only the best riders will succeed in. The unsuccessful will be declared nomads. Chuck in the fact that the unicorns are acting rebellious, the Hatchery eggs have been stolen, and the Weaver keeps showing up, this is going to be Skandar's and his quartet's toughest year yet.
This is without a doubt the best Skandar book to date. It is darker and more action filled than ever before. The character development from not only Skandar but the entire cast is great and the relationships between them develop in unlikely ways.
This series just keeps getting better and better and is in my opinion setting a new standard for middle grade fantasy.
Bring on book 4!
