There were brief periods when the book slowed, but I genuinely loved this book.  I loved the characters. I loved the story. I loved the plot and the way it was set up to keep you questioning throughout who were the victims of the murders...
I've read at least one other book by Kate Quinn, possibly two, and she has a wonderful way of telling historical fiction. It always hooks me into doing more research on a time period or topic so I end up learning from my entertainment!

I always love Kate Quinn’s books, but I think her work really evolved with this one. The multiple POV (and including the house as a character?? Brilliant!) was engaging and I really enjoyed how she took us back in time to “the beginning” and showed us how things evolved from different perspectives. The murder mystery element stepped up the game and I felt engaged and intrigued by all the different characters and how Quinn worked to develop their unique voices and stories. It kept me on my toes until the very end and I thought that Quinn did a beautiful job examining the lives of a very diverse set of women living during the “red scare” in the United States.

I've been on a roll recently, reading books that I've loved.  This is another one of those five-star books.  I loved everything about this book:  the women, what it was like to live in a boarding house in the 1950s, and the different stories that covered many aspects of life then.   This book would be great to listen to as well as to read in print.
