This is a gorgeous story, full of connection, chemistry and laden with secrets. The set up for this marriage of convenience was novel and the author payed more than lip service to the important plot device of asylums.

This was a couple to cheer for and Helena in particular was an interesting character. She had chemistry with Justin, lots but I was sad at the slow burn. I'm a big fan of the slow burn but this one just took too long for the couple, story and I did lament the lack of heat.

I'm not sure I'm interested in the middle two stories of this series but I definitely want Neville's story.

4.5 stars. If you want a clean, pure Victorian era romance that is well written, this is the book for you. It could do with a little bit of spice. And man, titled women were such pansies!

But I liked our heroine and I liked our hero. They had good dialogue and it felt very gothic and dreary until the reach the bright lights of London. Its a sad premise really. It seems probable that many innocent people were taken advantage of by greedy people and they did live under pain and suffering in the private asylums.

So, it felt relevant and built a good solid story. I enjoyed the couple and how they worked things out.

Started off so well! Things got a little tedious about 2/3 through but did I stay up all night to finish? Yes.
