Following the journey of Wallace from life through death alongside Mei, Hugo, Nelson, and Apollo was heart warming. There were many times in this story that I teared up or felt a familiar ache in my chest when discussing death of those close to you. I did find the pacing a bit slow and, although I understand the appeal to wrapping a story up in a happy ending, I do wish the ending was handled differently.
Rather than Wallace coming back to life as a reaper, I think the story would have more emotional depth if he crossed. The characters could’ve been reunited in the afterlife decades later- I feel that would’ve added to the finality of death and make the point of appreciating the time and people you have while living (or in the in between) stronger.

Wow T. J. Klune for the win again… I absolutely love his style of cozy fantasy. I listened to this and the narration was impeccable! I’m still in awe of how Klune comes up with these ideas and put them to page. It’s just amazing. I absolutely love it and how he has diversity and LGBTQ+ representation in his book. I’m such a big fan of his.
