This was my first “fair play” mystery (meaning you should be able to solve it as a reader given all the clues) and I was not successful but it was a great ending. Loved how it was explained, that’s always the most fun part. Overall, I’m a fan. I would read more from this author.

RIP Agatha Christie, you would've loved Yukito Ayatsuji

i had a lot of fun with this one :] as usual with crime/detective mysteries I like to put tabs on the pages with all my questions and predictions as I think of them. I was almost on the right trail before being deliberately mislead two or three times. The added detail of each character being known to the reader as only their club assigned nickname was a really fun trick that made for an even more exciting reveal. the edition i read was translated by ho-ling wong, who I like to call "hole-in-one" because his translations hit the mark spot on (save for one or two typos/weird grammatical quirks).
