A great homage to golden-age detective fiction, specifically And Then There Were None, but at points it maybe treads into being derivative. Very aware of its place within the genre, but felt fresh to me, perhaps by virtue of not being English-language
This book isn’t reminiscent of And Then There Were None…it’s almost the exact same plot, and the characters repeatedly acknowledge how similar their circumstances - in a creepy house, on an abandoned island, with mysterious clues that portend their untimely murders - are to the famed dame’s titular work.
It was plain good fun, and I was honestly surprised by the whodunnit. Read it if you’re looking for something quick, plucky, clever, and lighthearted (except for the murder part. Basically everyone dies).

"The decagon house murders" follows seven students from a mystery club going to an one week trip to a remote island, intrigued by its history of a tragic incident. There, they discover that someone's preparing to haunt them down. And it's likely the killer is one of them. They must solve the mystery to save themselves.
I enjoyed the book, but I have mix feelings about it. I love the concept.. it's very unique and strategic. But the execution is real letdown.
Honestly, I don't like the writing at all. It's a bit confusing and overly detailed. I was hoping all these details would mean something to the plot, that's why they're there. But it wasn't the case.
Ending was a total surprise. But not in a good way. It felt like author dropped a huge revelation out of nowhere, without leaving any hint through out the story...like a mystery novel should be. And the characters... the fact that, they're all introduced as mystery fiction nerds still somehow they manage to head in completely wrong way. Spe
cially ellery.. i thought he'd be the one to solve it.. but alas that kid died doing NOTHING. Every character lacks depth, making it harder for me to connect.
But I like the concept of their nicknames it's a very cool addition.
I wish there were more clues to piece together, instead of having it all explained in the last chapter by the murderer.
