The narrator for this book was absolutely freaking perfect! Now I will say that the first two chapters confused the heck outta me but once I got settled in the story I loved it! The characters, the chemistry, the sexy scenes, the political intrigue. I really underestimated how much I was gonna enjoy this. So much fun! A really well done vampire and werewolf story that felt new and fresh and well thought out. With lots of delightful world building.

Ali Hazelwood does it again with this spectacular vampire x werewolf story that did not make me hate my eyes for being able to read 😂 I wasn’t sure how I was going to feel about this supernatural romance, but Misery (Miresy) was a fantastic protagonist who made me laugh several times and I fell in love with little Ana and the self-sacrificing Lowe too.
the only thing that bothered me was Lowe being a little TOO self-sacrificing and hurting Misery in the process
Major tropes in this book include: found family, enemies to lovers, forced proximity, and I guess personal growth too! I am really hoping for a book 2 after that epilogue because hot DAMN!

Solid characterisation, decent worldbuilding, fun tropes. Also had a good mystery going on.

This is my second Ali Hazelwood book and I’m already seeing what I suspect is her tried and true formula. It’s not necessarily a bad thing but it’s not great either.

I did appreciate that Misery (atrocious name choice- Ali Hazelwood, you should serve prison time for this) and Lowe getting to know each other felt natural despite their circumstance. It could have easily dipped too deep into insta-love territory. Unfortunately I don’t think either of them really grew as people. The twists were predictable as well so watching Misery stumble into answers was a little frustrating. Like girl, of course
your dad is the bad guy. You should’ve known that from the start.

The book’s main selling point is that if the reader has spent any time at all on Ao3, it’s familiar territory and it’ll be an easy, quick read. I think I’m done with Ali Hazelwood now though. I don’t think she can deliver anything I will genuinely like.

Hot, fun, and very sweet! Such an easy read, flew through it so quick.
The love interest is such a simp for her I love it 😂
Loved reading such healthy communication around intimacy in a romance book!
