This was actually so cute.

I actually like that the romance kind of took a backseat. It gave Adam and Sabrina time to actually get to know each other. Since the goal is for him and his grandma to rebuild their relationship. It's very obvious the two are attracted to each other, but they try to keep it platonic since the living situation is so unique. There's also so many parallels between their situations; they end up helping each other out because of past and current situations.

I received this ARC from NetGalley

Hear me out… I think this would’ve been better without the romance.

I actually really enjoyed parts of this and I thought the friendships and familial relationships were well done, but the love interest just didn’t work for me at all.

The “competition” led to him being weirdly mean to the main character, which didn’t make sense to me given the genre. This book came so close to being a DNF for me right around this part — he felt like a walking red flag and it was hard to root for the characters or their relationship. It seemed like the only things they had in common were Marcia and their lust for each other. Altogether pretty disappointing.

I also found the sheer number of references to specific books, internet trends, and brands to be distracting, and I know it’ll age the book within a few years. Some people really love this though, so I can’t fault the author for it; it just wasn’t for me.

Thank you to NetGalley, the publisher, and the author for a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
