i absolutely adored this book! the whimsy, the banter, the characters were all for me.
this is the first middle grade book i’ve finished as an adult and i must say it’s setting the bar so high.
it feels so good to be back in a book that i just could not put down. the writing flowed so beautifully and i was never bored or detached.
with her sense of humor, i swear Morrigan could be my best friend

I very seldom make comparisons to the Harry Potter books because it seems like everyone likes to try to compare books to that series, so I won't make a comparison to the content of the books, but I will say that while reading this book I felt the way I felt when I first read the first Harry Potter book. And that is definitely a good thing.
I'm not happy that I have to wait until August for the third book, but I'm starting the second one right now. I can't wait to see how Morrigan and Hawthorne handle the next year.

I definitely see how people love this book, but honestly, this was a little bit of a chore to get through. I felt like the stakes were never high enough or when they were supposed to be high, but it never got quite there. It wasn't a book that I wanted to keep going back to and it took way too long to get into
3.5 stars. This was a fun read but it took me a while to get into it. I am excited to read the rest of the series.
