I give this a five star rating because it has become a literary classic and an important piece of history. I believe everyone should read it to understand the holocaust. Another must read is [b:Night|1617|Night (The Night Trilogy, #1)|Elie Wiesel|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1391969340s/1617.jpg|265616].
I also just love the voice of Anne Frank. She is very thoughtful and well spoken. I believe that is why her diary, above all those written, has become infamous. In addition to reading this book, I also listened to the audio book as read by Susan Adams- the most perfect voice to narrate Anne Frank. She brought life to the diary that I had never experienced before.
If you haven't reread this book as an adult, I highly recommend that you do so. It has been a very rewarding reread.

Reading this book may have changed my life forever ohmygod
I haven't stopped crying since I finished reading and I am still crying as I write this review. The way her words impact me, the way it hits me is beyond what I can put in words at the moment so this review will not be doing the book any justice.
I saw glimpse of myself in her thoughts, in her words and my heart aches for her. I'm glad she get to experience the joys of love however brief it was. This book reminded me that at the end of the day we're so so so human. To read that even during excruciatingly dark awful awful times we often grasp tightly of art, of love, of companionship, of a resemblance of hope to keep us going. Anne frank you truly were such a remarkable extraordinary person.
I will not ignore the fact that as I read this book, the state of the world is exactly as what has been written before. It feels like the world is redoing history and nothing has changed and it's so painful to think that somewhere out there in gaza, in Sudan that there is a girl just like Anne that's dealing with exactly the same thing and no one is doing anything about it. We're just letting history repeats itself. Anne frank would be disgusted

I went into this book not expecting much. I mean, it is a historical document first of all and most of the value that comes from reading it comes from the historical aspects of it. Or at least that’s what I thought before being pleasantly surprised. We don’t often think of 13 year olds being good at writing but Anne was clearly a very capable wordsmith. She writes in a way that is easy to follow while maintaining depth at the same time. In this way, she is better than many “adult” writers. And to think that at first she didn’t even intend for anyone to read her diary. Everyone knows the story of Anne Frank and how the Nazi eventually find her (and the others with her too) in hiding and send her off to a concentration camp, but Anne Frank didn’t much write about the Nazis or about the war really. When reading her diary, it feels like the war is some historical backdrop and you’re just reading the written thoughts of a teenage girl in the Netherlands. By all means, that is what this book is about which is what makes it so haunting. Most of the book focuses on how Anne feels about herself, about the others in the “Secret Annexe” as well as about the everyday things in her life in hiding. Most of the book could even be described as banal. But it is precisely this banality that makes it so haunting to read. Reading about how such and such person was sick and such and such person was on the toilet for this long and so on is made so much sadder knowing that all but one person from the Annexe eventually dies in the Holocaust. That is not to mention the abrupt and shocking cutoff point at the end of the book which is the final diary entry that Anne wrote before she was found. Despite the mundanity of most of the book (the content about petty quarrels and family drama and other similar things) it is an enjoyable read and it really showcases Anne’s potential to be an amazing writer that unfortunately was killed by perpetrators of a horrific ideology that still hasn’t vanished from this Earth. I think this book is valuable to read and is much more than a simple historical document. Final rating: 4/5.
