I really enjoyed this. Rissa was realistic and relatable. I liked her growth, how she learned and became the best version of herself. Ryd was harder for me to like actually. It wasn't until his memory flashbacks that I started to like him even a little. But the only reason this was not a 5 star was the epilogue. It jumps hundreds of years and honestly I still had questions about characters and what happened next. If they get answered in book 2, because it seems like this will be a series, awesome and my rating will become a 5.

I thought I would really like this story, and it had potential at the beginning, but fell short for me by the end. If I’m being honest, I loved the cover so much, I knew I would read it despite what the synopsis is, or what reviews said.

In this story we follow Rissa who is the rightful seelie queen, but who does not want to be queen. When the king of the unseelie comes to have her claim her throne, she decides that she’s going to release another seelie Fae from a curse who would be the rightful king of seelie, no matter how crazy or psychotic everyone says he is. As long as she doesn’t have to take the role that everyone thinks she doesn’t deserve because of what she looks like.

I really liked how the story started. The world building and the character building was fantastic! You get a back story of every character that is relevant in this book, and you learn about the seelie and unseelie courts. And then about 2/3 into the book, all of a sudden so much happens so fast! It’s like one minute we are learning about everyone and the world, and the next minute all this action is happening, leaving plot holes in the story that I wanted to understand better or learn more and answer why this or that was happening. This could have easily been a series, or at least a duology. It doesn’t seem to be part of a series, but instead just a standalone, which is a bummer since this story had such potential to become so much more.

If you love fantasy, Fae, fierce females, sassy male characters, and quick stories, then you’ll love this one! It just sadly wasn’t quite for me. I still recommend it since the writing is really good, love the backstory, just wish it was longer to fill up those plot holes.

Good characters but like others have said the plot is stuffed into a book that is too short to handle it. The twists come out of nowhere and the heroine’s quest seems pointless.

I may or may not have downloaded this book because of a 1 star review on Amazon stating that it was full of porn hahaha.

While it was unfortunately not filled with porn, and in fact only had one very tame sex scene right at the end, the characters and world-building were really good. I’m kind of sad it’s a stand-alone because the author created a beautiful world that I’d love to know more about.

Definitely still worth the read but that Amazon review is a filthy lie.

ngl, this felt a little too incestuous at the beginning for me, they literally call each other ‘cousin’ despite being several generations removed. Thankfully new nicknames are used from around the 30% mark. The family tree was a little confusing especially since it spans thousands of years but she’s only ~150y.o. and he’s ~350y.o despite him being 10 generations removed from her?

I also think that some parts of the plot were a little underdeveloped/rushed and a longer word count could’ve given so much more room to explain some points.

If you IGNORE those points then it’s a pretty easy read, and I think her naivety comes across really well in the plot line.

i enjoyed this book a lot it was short and simple w characters i loved and the beginning was super engaging but the ending was anticlimactic so you cant have it all. the main couple is cute but they were separated for half of the book my least favorite thing especially when the book is short asf but i’ll look past it 8.5/10.

This book was good. I liked the plot and the characters were alright too, i just think it was too short. I felt like we got so much information at once, that half of it was gone. I never really got to bond with some of the characters and i felt so overwhelmed. I really liked it though, after i could sit down and take in all the information.
