Brilliant. Like a fantastic, swirling cop movie on the Lower East Side.

Writing was very good, story line was very slow, and a very weak ending. Seemed as though the author was writing just to paint an incredibly clear setting while forgetting to provide a strong story line. I didn't like it.

This might have been a nice find on my own, but with all the buzz and Time's best of the decade list I was a bit disappointed. Just like all the reviews say, dialogue is fantastically realistic and jazzy. But the story line just seemed like an extended Law and Order with some interesting characters thrown in. Not bad, but not something I gave any thought to as soon as I finished.

Originally, I considered this book a letdown. Once I started writing about the book, however, I figured out why I sat through and finished it. Price makes really good characters and his prose reads like he's just reporting what happened to him. You can tell this guy does his homework. You can also tell he has a genuine understanding of the streets, as he grew up in the Bronx.

Not to be missed. He is a master of dialogue and story-telling.

Don't use my rating as a guidline for this book. I did not finish this book, therefore really can't judge. I chose to put it down because I am too distracted to become fully involved with it. There are too many characters, none that caught my attention enough to move forward. I have read and liked two R. Price books in the past and know I would like this too if I could read past the first 100 pages. I will try it again later.

Took me a bit to get into this, but really enjoyed it and will definitely check out other books he's written. It's a story about a shooting in NYC and the effect it has on the detective following up on it and one of the participants.

Well written, interesting and unexpected.

What does it take to survive here. Who survives. The, the already half dead? Or the unconscious.

Do you survive because of what is in you? Or because of what isn’t.
