This was a nice cozy mystery, and I enjoyed the story. It had lots of descriptions of yummy food, almost too many to the point I thought it kind of got in the way of the book. I caught myself rolling my eyes and getting annoyed at the characters a few times and it ruined my enjoyment a little. Overall, I thought it was cozy and fun to read, and I recommend this to other people who might enjoy a light, cozy mystery along with delicious food.

Well this is disappointing, while I liked Filipino rep and small town mystery this whole book is emotionless when it comes to characters.

I loved this so much and am so grateful I got a chance to read it early thanks to BOTM. All of the characters were amazing and really had a distinct personality that brought them to life and the story kept my interest the entire time. This was such a strong start to this series and I can't wait until I can read the next book and once again dive back into this world.

DNF at 12% because the writing was bad and the characters had no emotion, plus they weren’t the brightest. You don’t think that denying the kitchen to the investigator would look suspicious, after the evidence got destroyed? Not to mention that they talked without a lawyer. Ex boyfriend died at your family restaurant? Better go in detail about the food everyone’s eating during a time that should have some kind of tension to it. Also, they were talking about the diabetic guy who died after eating dessert as if diabetic people can never ever have dessert and that’s just ignorant.

I wanted to like this book. I really did. But the dialogue was very cliched and the whole pacing was not well done. She also kept hinting at things that happened in the past, but then wouldn’t explain it. I felt like it was supposed to make it mysterious, but it just made me annoyed. Once or twice, that device can work. With everything? Stop please.
Sorry to say this novel wasn’t for me. I won’t be reading anymore in this series.
