Gotta say, this book holds up pretty well, and was better than I thought it would be! The only real things that troubled me from time to time, was that, for one, some parts felt like they dragged a bit, and, second, that Kinderman's lines were pretty annoying to read. It was also his parts I mentioned above. Aside from that, a good read! I liked how the tension got build and, when Merrin arrived, oooooh boy did I know shit was about to hit the fan!

Recommended for someone who enjoys the movie horror or possession stories.

Unsurprisingly, this story is very religion focused which I struggled with a little bit. But the point is to convey how demonic possession effects those around the person that possessed and that a pov you really don’t usually get. Overall, it’s obviously a classic, it’s obviously good.
dark emotional mysterious sad slow-paced

Features unexpectedly gutting prose every now and then. Also, you cannot find me a better man in fiction than Father Damien Karras and that's not just because he's a priest with a faith issue and a fundamental desire to be good. I loved this book and every single one of these characters. 5 stars.

If you're coming from the movie (and you almost certainly are), you might be surprised by how beautiful the prose at offer here is. And while the story isn't too long the character work feels dense and alive in a way the movie misses out on. Vulgar, methodical, and with a villain that got under my skin, I can't recommend this enough to horror fans. Plus, the audiobook is narrated by the author himself and he has a perfect, low gravel to his voice.
