This picks up six months after the major event(s) in the first book. With no communication from Gale, Odette attempts to part ways but ends up folding like a lawn chair and conforming to royal life and its demands. Their chemistry didn’t have quite the magic of Part 1, mostly because I think Gale was written too passive due to the circumstances. Besides sorting out a palace mole and racism à la Meghan Markle, Odette’s actual safety is brought into question. It was a little too lengthy but does end with a HEA and detailed epilogue of her and all the Ersovian characters.
Moderate: Grief, Racism, Xenophobia, Death, and Dementia
Minor: Vomit, Pregnancy, Sexual content, Death of parent, Miscarriage, and Hate crime

Odette and Gale. Gale and Odette. My favourite couple ever and their story was just so perfect.
The emotion and depth behind this second part hit me very hard, I wished it was all rainbows and unicorns and Odette had an easy ride going into this BUT at the same time I appreciated the real world elements that were clearly going to happened. Book 2 was a different vibe, the flirtatiousness from book 1 was still there but now there were stakes and real world conflicts which made it a different vibe and story overall and kept me buzzing to go back for more.
I will admit I was suspicious of Sophia the whole time and everything bad that happened I put the blame on that person lol. at one point even suspected the queen because I felt no one was in Odette’s corner except for Gale & Wolfgang.
