Overall I liked this book. The beginning was very strong and immediately caught my attention.
The characters are unique and well developed, and the action moves at a fast pace.

The second half of the book was a bit slower. There's still a good story and good action, but it wasn't quite like the beginning.

Overall I recommend this book to young readers, I think it will be enjoyed by anyone who picks it up.

I really liked this book. It was a fun read that I couldn't put down. Overall it was as great book that I read whenever I could.

Piper is a determined girl who, ever since her father died, has tried to get out of her scrapper town and find a new place in the world. When she makes a promise to her friend that she didn't think would actually agree, she ends up in a world of trouble. And finds something that might be more than she can handle. With her friend hurt and another girl found, she has to make quick decisions that may keep them alive or kill them. Ending up on the run, will she and her new companion be able to outwit the people after them? And find themselves along the way?

This book is such a magnificent introduction to steampunk and dystopian books for younger readers, while still being upbeat and fascinating! The characters all have their own delightful little quirks, and the worldbuilding feeds the imagination! I've read this book about a billion times over, and it never fails to entertain me!

I LOVED this book! It really made me want to write a book set on a train, or read more books with a steampunk theme. The characters were so loveable and the setting was so descriptive and fun to visualize!

YA Fiction, Fantasy, Adventure

This is for sure one I need to re read. I remember loving this book and I think i must have read it in 3rd or 4th grade. I don’t remember that much about it though, except someone was secretly a robot.

The world-building worked for me, and I enjoyed getting to know this split society: some industry, but mostly poor settlements caught in the struggle between the King and the Dragonfly Territories. There's some magic, dragons and the mechanical aspects are fascinating. While those are familiar aspects, the question of Anna's identity and role as someone protected by the Dragonfly will keep readers from having that deja lu feeling.

My first steampunk book! I didn't think I could get into it, because I don't usually like to read books in this setting. But, the characters drew me in and their connections to each other kept me involved in their stories. Wouldn't mind reading more about their adventures & discoveries.

Gr 4-8 -- It is a harsh life for Piper, an orphan who makes her living salvaging meteor storm debris and repairing small machines in Scrap Town #16. When she rescues an unconscious girl - Anna - from the wreckage of a travelers’ caravan and discovers that she is under the protection of the king of the Dragonfly Territories, Piper knows that returning Anna to her family is her only chance of a new life. But Anna has lost her memory. And she’s very odd. And a strange, intense man is hot on her heels - he will stop at nothing to capture Anna.
Part Firefly and part Airborn (Kenneth Oppel), this alternate-Earth novel is full of mechanical wonders, magical people, and unambiguous good guys and bad guys. Appealing characters and lots of action make it a good choice for young adventure readers with a taste for steampunk.
