Great Recipes

I love hot for food on YouTube and this book is a collection of some of the best recipes from Lauren. I have tried many of them. Only downside is not having the American cup measurements as I have had to add a lot more flour than the recipe suggests for the biscuits (scones) I have made them so much in my past that I know the right consistency so I keep adding flour until it forms a dough, however others may not know how to do this (beginners). I think the conversion is wrong. My only downside, but not going to reduce the review stars because the books brilliant all the recipes are tasty.
adventurous inspiring lighthearted medium-paced

Although the recipes in this vegan cookbook aren't all that healthy, that's really not the point.
The whole idea of this book is to recreate and reimagine some favourite restaurant style appetizers and mains with vegan alternatives. Although, I generally prefer recipes that embrace veggies for their vegginess and don't try to make them into meat, this book's take on vegan pub fare is better than most. What stood out for me was that every recipe has serving suggestions, tips for when substitutions can be made (and when they can't) and storage guidelines for sauces etc. This is a well thought out book with great organization and great photos.

A great book if you live in a city with a lot of processed vegan replacement products available at your fingertips, and you're really that in need of vegan versions of foods from your past carnivore life. Chock full of tofu, fake bacon, processed fake chicken, fake beef, etc. I've always steered away from these recipes because the foods used to emulate those meaty flavors aren't doing much to replace the protein and other nutrients from the foods they are meant to be replacing. I'm not so sure the average person has the time, money, or patience to bother with many of the recipes in this book, either, but I'm sure they taste great for those who really need to satisfy a craving.

I'm excited to try the southern fried cauliflower, though!
informative lighthearted

I picked this up because I love cookbooks and this one was nominated for a goodreads choice award this year. No, I am not a vegan.

This is a beautiful cookbook and the photos are definitely tempting. Toyota takes classic comfort foods (cross-cultures) and vegan-izes them. The first chapter has info on how to make things like coconut-bacon or almond bacon. and other vegan substitutes for things like parmesan cheese. Many of the recipes included these foundational elements. While the recipes sounded tempting, a lot of them seemed to take a lot of time and effort and as a mom (who knows her kids won't eat any of the food from this book) most nights, I really don't have the desire to cook elaborate recipes that take more than 40 minutes.

Yes. Just absolutely, a billion times, YES.

This cookbook helped me along my journey to become vegan over a year ago now, and I'm so grateful. The recipes are easy to follow, absolutely delicious, and taste just like their non-vegan counterparts, but without the animal cruelty. What's not to love? I can have my cake and eat it, too!

Whether you're vegan, looking to become one, or just want to reduce your intake of animal products- try this!

Loved this book and love Hot For Food!

My family and I eat mostly plant-based but we are not 100% vegan. When I began my plant journey, Lauren Toyota was the person who really made me feel like plant-based was a lifestyle I could sustain. I love hamburgers, bacon, hotdogs, pancakes, cupcakes. If it's bad for you, I want it. I truly felt like going plant-based meant I would have to give up those comfort foods I grew up with and love but Lauren proved me wrong.

This book is truly great for those, like my husband, who do not enjoy YouTube but love a good cookbook. The recipes are easy to follow along and she manages to make you laugh while you're cooking with her raunchy humor.

Two thumbs up, all the way!!!

To some people, vegan = healthy..... but that is SO NOT THE CASE, I mean it can be, but those terms aren't necessarily synonymous . Although plant based eating can be very healthy, Lauren explains that this cookbook isn't one of those cookbooks. It's veganized comfort food, and I can't wait to make so many of these recipes!
