Want a cute, happy little holiday novella? Well, Fire Night ain’t it, which is exactly why I am thoroughly under its spell. It is cute and happy, but it is also a little spooky and a bit dark and murdery to balance out the cheesy. I’d like all my holiday novellas with a side of murder and mayhem from now on, please and thank you. Because they’re rarely my cup of Fire whisky.
First Conclave, now Fire Night, Pen knows how to do justice to this shorter format. My hormones could hardly handle the four horsemen in their POV as dads, leading to instant ovary explosion and to bringing my cold, cynical heart back to life. She keeps you riveted and on your toes, and gives you a lot of food for thought. And of course, leaves some fun little loose ends. Whether she chooses to continue with the second gen Horsemen or not, each little bit of their story just cements it as one of my favorite worlds in romance. And I really hope she does choose to write more in it someday. Each of those kids has more personality than some fully fleshed our characters I’ve read.
