This is one of the most depressing books I have ever read. It’s also incredibly sad. And, the author puts in the very first chapter how the book ends. It’s not a good beach read. It’s about infidelity, abandonment and not owning your own story. The writing is great the story is so sad and depressing. I wish I had not read it.

This was such a surprise and I didn't expect to enjoy it as much as I did. I loved the way Elin Hilderbrand was able to capture the atmosphere of the time and I really felt as if I was there. Each of the different members of the Levin family had compelling storylines and I appreciated that this was a story driven solely by multiple, female POVs. This book was able to capture a snapshot in time for one family during a significant time in history and tell a thought-provoking, heartfelt story.
And maybe, just maybe, this summer will end up being one that people write songs about.
