I listened to the audiobook narrated by Alaska, and I was hooked! It was very interesting to hear about her start in drag and how her career has developed through time. Alaska is one of the most interesting drag performers alive, and her book shows that.

What a fun ride!

Anyone who knows Drag Race knows about Alaska. While she may be a campy "alien from the planet Glamtron" on Drag Race, she was a whip smart and thoughtful narrator in this memoir. Her honesty and willingness to admit when she was wrong was so admirable.

She doesn't water down some of the more controversial stunts she has pulled. Nor does she try and explain away the childish behavior she exhibited. It made me relate to her. I recognized a real desire to learn from her mistakes. And, to me, she has taken away all the right lessons.

The writing was also particularly strong. Its not quite conversational, but its a breezy book that moves from one topic to the next seamlessly. I listened to this one on audio and it was narrated by Alaska herself (and of course, she is a fabulous narrator)

I especially like the chapters about Stevie Nicks, Britney and Gaga. Alaska and I share such a reverence for pop divas so it was like cat nip for me to hear her explain what made each of these legends so special to her.

I'd recommend this book to anyone, not just fans of drag race. She gives enough context to understand certain issues that arose on the show (and after.)

I couldn't imagine anyone not enjoying what is contained between these pages.

This was such a good book. I was not expecting the level of honesty she gives throughout the book, despite the fact that it doesn't always paint her in the best light. I knew nothing of Alaska outside of seeing her on Drag Race and Allstars. This was like a backstage look at all of it and more. Gorgeous pics throughout the book of Alaska!

My Name’s Yours, What’s Alaska? is one of the most painless memoirs I have ever read. In fact, I read it in one sitting. The memoir follows the life and career of the drag queen Alaska Thunderfuck. Alaska was lucky to grow up with a supportive family and began her career doing local theater. Eventually, she moved to Pittsburg where her drag career really took off. There she met boyfriend and fellow Haus of Haunt member Sharon Needles. The book details their relationship and highlights a lot of the unsavory parts of it.

Alaska spends a good portion of the book discussing her relationship with Sharon, including the inappropriate behavior that they both used on stage. She acknowledges this behavior and states that she deeply regrets it.

I have never seen RuPaul’s Drag Race and was hoping that there would be more on what goes into filming the show. The sections on both seasons that Alaska participated in are very short. However, Alaska does go into great detail about touring and other gigs.

Additionally, this book describes the struggles of a broke drag queen. Sometimes this includes violence, abusive relationships, and drug abuse. Alaska struggled with alcohol and drug abuse for a long time.

Overall this was a fascinating look into the world of drag queens.
