This series is just honestly so much fun, it never fails to make me smile. Ironically, this installment is much darker than its predecessors, which is no surprise given the fact that Call was arrested for his best friend's murder at the end of the last book. Which I'm still not over, by the way.
Everything did well and truly feel fractured this time around without Aaron in the mix. A lot of relationships were strained or evolved, and at times this was difficult to read, as you can really feel what Call was going through over the course of the book. So, plenty of points for playing with our emotions, thanks very much.
The plot felt a little bit thinner than in the previous books - maybe this is due to the static nature of the setting, or maybe it really just felt weird because things that had been hurtling one way for so long suddenly paused and changed into something else. Either way, despite some of the events that occur, I felt that there wasn't quite enough development there and the ending was slightly rushed. Nice small plot twist at the last second though, I like it.
Overall: A darker installment in this fun series that doesn't quite hold the magic of its predecessors.
