Reader beware: Where The Truth Lies by Anna Bailey features themes of physical and emotional abuse as well as violence, drinking, drugs, and more. In a world becoming more and more polarized along stereotypes, a book that pulls on the ideas creating that divide, for me, is a challenge to get through. This is a depressing and dark story, and it is nothing of what I expect from the title or the description. I walk away, completely not the reader for this book.

I struggled with this book mainly because the narrator was pretty awful and the preacher's sermons were too long but besides that I liked the rest of it. I will not be reading anything else with that particular narrator.
Wanted so badly to love this book. It was just an incredibly slow read and I struggled to finish. I do not like giving up on books, but I wish I had on this one. The last maybe 30 pages of the book were really good, but the other 350 pages of the book was just character building. There was not enough action or suspense happening in this book for me.
When a town is built on lies, deception and toxicity in all forms, how long will it take for the truth to come out, and what will be the cost?

You know when you’re reading a mystery and the mystery is just “too vague” it ends up brings frustrating? That’s definitely how the first 1/3 of Where The Truth Lies reads. We get it: it’s a mystery... now reveal SOMETHING.
Then once the reveals started it was like BOOM BOOM BOOM, wild bombshells.
I liked the scenery of Whistling Ridge and despised most of its residents. The town had a lot of issues going on -racism, homophobia, classism- which became consistent themes throughout the book. The twists were interesting but pretty disturbing. This book is not for the innocent.
I’d recommend it (with warning) to fans of mysteries/suspense, family dramas, and small town drama.
TW: alcoholism, pedophilia, and domestic violence

I got to the halfway point and skipped ahead to the end. I was overwhelmed with all of the characters and their involvement.
