Thank you to the author, publisher and Net Galley for providing a free ebook ARC copy of this book in exchange for my review.
Sadly, this just wasn't the book for me. It felt like several other books I've read over the years and just didn't really enjoy. I didn't care for any of the characters and really just wanted it to all be over and done with so I could move on.
Unfortunately, this is 1 star for me for 'did not like'.

I wanted to reach into the book and shake dinner of the characters; it's definitely a tough read. The author was born and raised in England but spent time living in Colorado. This book was inspired by her experience of living in small-town America.
Plenty of twists and turns and decent mysterious developments, albeit several I saw coming. Entertaining but not overly mind-blowing.

When Emma leaves her teenaged best friend at a party in the woods it doesn’t feel right, but Abi insists and it’s the last time Emma will see her. Abi’s disappearance is the catalyst that brings secrets and grudges into the open as Emma tries to find what happened to her friend.
I loved the way each character was slowly developed and revealed with their flaws and secrets as the book went on and the mystery of what happened to Abi became more murky with each reveal.
Seventeen-year-old Abi vanishes mysteriously from Whistling Ridge, a series of events are set in motion, and its results will be devastating.
At the eye of the hurricane, we come to know Abi's brother Noah and their disfunction family.
As the investigations intensify, some family secrets start to emerge, leading to a shocking discovery.
Where the truth lies, delivers one of the most evil and complex villains ever written.

An unflinching and uncomfortable look at the poisons of small towns. I really liked the characters you were supposed to like and hated the ones you were supposed to hate. The mystery element was good and I liked the ending and that's really all you can ask for with something like this.
