My sister and I decided to buddy read this - I received a paperback copy and she received a copy from her father in law. I knew this was climate fiction - I’m not usually a fan so I knew this would be out of my wheelhouse.
I listened, read paperback and also on my kindle app. I think this would have been better suited for the fall or when I had a better attention span.
It’s very descriptive about nature. It’s also a very sad story about survival and loss. Overall I can see the appeal and think the author achieved what she set out to do.

This book was lovely, dark, and deep. It takes you on a journey through what the end of civilization in Florida would look like. It talks about climate, change, grief, love, and loss. It follows the life span of one girl and her experience living in a small town in Florida. it was excellent and I would highly recommend it if you’re looking for a thoughtful read. It’s just a little bit of science fiction, or maybe climate fiction, with the right dose of some ecological wonders, and all the humanity rolled into it.

I read this based on strong recommendations without really knowing what it was about. I don’t usually enjoy dystopian novels and that was the case here. It started out promising. The fact that it takes place in central Florida with several strong hurricanes did make this a more “realistic” scenario to envision. It’s not terrible but nothing about it grabbed my attention and made me want to read.
