Had potential but there was something cringe about it. No shade to YA, some of it is amazing, but this read like bad YA. Blerch
4.25. A beautifully written and quiet meditation on what community and home mean in the wake of climate disasters.

This book was wonderfully written, compelling, and all to real given the current world. Change is constant in this book. The main character Wanda is born during a hurricane and subsequently watches the world change rapidly throughout her lifetime. She experiences an inordinate amount of loss, but continues to survive. As we are watching Florida get pummeled with more hurricanes each year, the dystopian storyline of this book seems not too far away. Wanda’s “power” and the magical realism element were a good addition, though I wish it was expanded a bit. I also wish we had learned what happened to Lucas and got a bit more of Wanda’s later life than the epilogue. Overall this is a thought
Moderate: Child death, Death, Grief, Death of parent
A heartwarming story about love, loss, change and adaption!
This book had so much potential. I feel like there was so much wasted story when it could’ve really been something. A post apocalyptic world eaten by natural disasters would’ve been cool, a queer love story in this would’ve been cool. But I felt every death except Phyllis. The mom has potential to be a cool character w her worry of being a mom but then she gets killed off?! And the dad randomly dying then not talking about it until another 100 pages later. This book just annoyed the shit out of me and was so slow.
