I thought that this would be just a modern retelling of Jane Austen's story, instead it stands on its own with just the central theme from the original. And the central theme holds up quite nicely. The sensible sister, Elinor, is quite believable. As the eldest sister in a family that loses their home when the father dies and it is passed on to an elder half-brother whose controlling wife wants nothing to do with her husband's relatives. Elinor is the practical one who takes on keeping the family going. At the same time, her younger sister, Marianne falls in love with a man who is only looking out for himself. Rather than being totally abandoned, the family receives considerable help along the way and is finally able to reestablish itself and flourish.

I didn’t warm to this modern adaptation as much I wanted to, there were some nice moments but paled in comparison to Jane Austen’s of the same name.

An enjoyable, entertaining retelling of Jane Austen's classic. Ms. Trollope gives more nuance to Elinor and Mrs. Jennings, though she sticks a little too closely to the original. This does, however, read well, and it is worth the time spent. Lucy Steele is also deliciously nasty. 3.5 stars.

This book was just so boring love Margaret though

Read by Rosamunde Pike, this is the most exquisite rendition of S and S. It is a joy from beginning to end, a jewel in the Austen lexicon, a pleasure. It is in my library. I will

I like Jane Austen, so I of course liked this storyline. I did not like the "modern" twist to it. The author decided that a few references to Taylor Swift, texting, and Aston Martins made it modern. The characters still talked in ways and using words that were very antiquated. It was a bad update.

ugh. This was just terrible. I hated all the characters and couldn't get into it. I love S&S, this is a horrible retelling.
