“Better to reign in Hell, than to serve in Heaven”
It’s easy to see why Paradise Lost is a classic; It’s eloquent, enthralling and also… exhausting.

I don’t think any other book has ever required so much of my brain function. As with all classics, Paradise Lost has become less parsable over time as language evolved. However, even with the passing of time, the poem still exudes grandeur.

I didn’t expect to find such multidimensional and rich characters when I started reading, and am incredibly impressed by how much depth Milton gave Satan. I think you could skip the smaller portions without him and still experience the best version of this story.

The fall of man has always fascinated me. I’ve read the story hundreds of times at church and in the Bible and it was cool reading this version

well its no warrior cats

I'm sorry, but Satan sounds gorgeous and honestly? I think I could fix him.

I absolutely loved this prequel to The Bible. It had all the flair and splendour of an epic poem. "Better to reign in Hell than serve in Heaven" is probably the hardest line I've ever read, too.

I would love to read more religious fanfiction - particularly the Angelic War itself - I think this is a kind of lost art.
