The style dramatises a story know, and makes it from a children's tale to an epic battle of will. Initially, the characters seem more human, morally grey and with wishes that are understandable, but as it progressing they become one side, either fully good or fully evil. The epic poem is beautiful in it's rendition, although the message is mostly doctrinal and perhaps today, archaic.

Not an easy read, but a worthwhile one for certain. This book didn’t really age well in the sense of being easily understandable, but the depth of content is well worth it. If you put in the effort for understanding the story and the implications, it’s a powerful piece. Milton’s grappling with Lucifer and his role in Christian eschatology.

Definitely an important work of English literature. It suffers primarily from every word having to adhere to Christian canon and Satan still needing to be the enemy of God despite explorations of his character.
