a less interesting version of such a fun age

I adore Sullivan’s writing so much. I think she could improve on her endings (they’re usually rushed) but her books are very much about the journey vs. the destination. I fell in love with her characters in this one.

the perfect book for a postpartum parentt

Friends and Strangers is a character-driven, slow burn (maybe no burn?), gem of a book. The story of the friendship-boss/employee-mentor relationship of Elisabeth and Sam that takes place over the course of Sams last year in college. Nothing really drastic happens, and I don’t think either learns much in a year, but I love character driven books and enjoyed this one a lot!

I enjoyed this book a lot. In a weird way, I related to both Sam and Elizabeth in certain ways. One complaint is there was so much buildup between the two main characters and their relationship. The story really didnt have much plot beyond their relationship, so the ending felt completely abrupt, even with a random epilogue.

I really enjoyed this one. The author nailed the complex relationships between young and middle aged women. It was thought-provoking, and I found myself identifying with many of the characters.

I think I must have missed something. This book got such great reviews but it wasn't that interesting. It felt like a meandering character study that needed to be edited. And honestly the characters were pretty horribly boring.
