The writing was beautiful and atmospheric, and I really liked the last part of the book. Other than that, this book was just... meh. There was a lot of stuff that I found boring, and a lot of stuff that weirded me out. And for the most part, the love story didn't even feel like one.

Given other circumstances I think I would have really enjoyed the book. The story and the setting are very nice actually but the writing style just wasn’t very nice. In my opinion it is never nice to read about obsessive behaviour and Elio was just that: behaving obsessiv and childish. It might even be close to how you actually feel in his situation at his age. I just personally prefer the delivery of emotions in another way. It just wasn’t really emotional or romantic to be honest.

beautiful book, i was weirded out for most things but besides that i found it really good. I also feel the way it ended was very sad but also happy
(((“like me, then before you leave tomorrow, or when you're just ready to shut the door of the taxi and have your already said goodbye to evervone else and there's not a thing left to say in this life, then, just this once, turn to me, even in jest, or as an afterthought, which would have meant everything to me when we were together, and, as you did back then, look me in the face, hold my gaze, and call me by your name.”))) that made me cry cause i found that beautiful but ALSO ELIO WITH A BEARD! that made me shocked hah
i wish they kept the book ending in the film.

For me a large amount of my rating goes for how beautiful written I found the language. I haven’t seen the movie and I was so easily able to immerse myself in this world in Italy. I don’t think I would say the relationship between Elio and Oliver is an idealistic romance to be aspired to. I would say it seems to be a product of the time and environment. There is most likely more to their relationship than this, which is often discussed by readers but I believe I will need to think more on the topic before truly grasping it.
