i just could not get myself to keep reading, i was so incredibly bored
adventurous slow-paced
challenging dark mysterious tense medium-paced
Plot or Character Driven: A mix
Strong character development: Complicated
Loveable characters: Complicated
Diverse cast of characters: No
Flaws of characters a main focus: Yes

I have huge respect and empathy for the author’s family and their lived experiences. That being said, this book didn’t come together for me. I enjoyed the first half, but the second half felt like a completely new book with a very rushed ending.

I was drawn to this book because part of it takes place on the famed Orient Express train and I’m a huge fan of Agatha Christie.

But, this is a very predictable and average mystery. Nothing like the genius of Agatha Christie.

The only redeeming parts of this book are about antisemitism. In the author’s notes she explains her family’s history being Jewish in Russia.

But, this book is not a memoir or a biography.

It’s a mystery and it failed being an enjoyable one for me.
