Typically twisting thriller. When you think the story is resolved there are still a few more twists in store. Solid writing, though a few out-of-character moments some further editing might have caught.

I didn't find anybody particularly sympathetic, and I didn't see the twists coming. Slight homage to Agatha Christie, which is why I picked it up, but ultimately just unrealistic drama, which is what thrillers always seem like to me.

If you like thrillers, especially ones that lack gore, rape, and "psychos," you'll probably like this one.

Great story but not a lot of thrill until the end. Good overall but not the best thriller.

This was a bit of a wild read and please never make me the main character of anything! There were some twists that I didn't see coming and I love that! This was my 1st book by Jaclyn Goldis but will not be my last!

This was such an atmospheric read. It was easy to become immersed in the world the author created and sit back and watch the story unfold.

This book is about a reclusive, mysterious author and her unique approach to crafting her bestselling thrillers. Ginerva Ex hires real people and extensively interviews them and then fictionalizes them in her books.

There is a lot of drama and deception in this character driven story. It was interesting to see how all of the different characters interacted with each other in the scenario the author created. Even though I didn’t particularly love any of the characters, it was still interesting to see how they handled everything that happened throughout the book.

Read this if you like:
→ Agatha Christie novels
→ Murder mysteries
→ Slow building story
→ Unlikeable characters

Overall this was an interesting, mysterious, and enjoyable read.

I am torn about this review because there were parts I so enjoyed, but things that I didn’t.This book started out with such an interesting premise, but it didn’t shine for me because it felt more historical fiction than thriller so I feel a bit tricked. There were some shocking twists, but you can tell the main focus and interest of the author is the post-WWII story and not the main character story. It felt like 2 book ideas merged into 1.

I think this will be enjoyable for anyone who goes in for a light thriller knowing it is more historical than an Orient-Express inspired story.

I liked:

A nod to Agatha Christie? I’m in! Except…it wasn’t. There was no mystery-just a family drama with a lot of loose ends and an abrupt ending. It was entertaining, but I won’t remember much about it.
