What. The. World! 5 women in a band. And snow.
Lots of snow. Sounds absolutely normal, right?
The book is ingenious!
99.9% of the time I have none of the intuition I thought I had at the start of the book. The narrator is glittering with talent.
McKinnon has a real gift pulling her readers in. Moderate swearing. Mild sexual content. I love her novels!!!

I was immediately drawn to Only One Survives by its gorgeous, atmospheric, and creepy cover, and the premise had me hooked—a girl rock band stranded in a cabin during a blizzard, with no way out and a possible killer among them. The snowstorm setting and locked-door thriller elements created an eerie, tension-filled atmosphere that initially pulled me in.

However, while the book started strong, it lost momentum in part two. The pacing dragged on, and the last 100 pages felt unnecessarily long. I wish the story had ended at the cabin, as the events that followed felt far-fetched and took away from the tight, suspenseful setup.

Unfortunately, the ending left me unsatisfied, and the story ultimately didn’t hit home for me

That said, if you enjoy isolated thrillers and slow-burning suspense, you might still find aspects to appreciate. But for me, this one went downhill and left me wishing for a tighter, more impactful conclusion. This book has received plenty of glowing reviews, so don’t just take my word for it—give it a read and see what you think!

Only One Survives was a complete letdown.

While reading this book, it became excruciatingly evident that the author saw the show Yellowjackets and decided to steal the concept for it.

The timeline makes zero sense. When one survivor is rescued, she manages to write and find a publisher for her memoir of the ordeal within days, and for some reason, so many people have read it even though it hasn't been published yet.

The MC is so obsessed with what strangers on social media think that it sends her into a tailspin. I will never understand the social media crap nor why people are obsessed with the approval of strangers.

I want Hannah Mary McKinnon to give me my day back.

Save your money, watch Yellowjackets instead.

I really enjoyed this, surprisingly so. I thought it was clever, the characters were interesting and realistically portrayed, and the integration of social media was well done. There were several twists that I didn't see coming, which really added to my enjoyment.

This was my first book by the author -- it won't be my last.

I received a complimentary copy of the novel from the publisher and NetGalley, and my review is being left freely.
