Poor writing and/or translation. Just because it's YA it doesn't need to be written with such a lack of style. Also the prejudicial views and outdated racism have me the ick!

He hecho una relectura 12 años después, y me encanta lo simple y maravilloso de esta novela

I think the ending could’ve been more fleshed out.
There too many instances that that author tells us instead of shows. I love the concept and the story. It was cute. And for the most part it is a page turner

I’m gonna be honest..I was liking the book but I wasn’t feeling like it was a great book (good yes but not great) until the plot twist on the last 35 pages which made me devour the rest of the book at 3 a.m.

If this is the first book of Isabel Allende that you have picked up....PUT IT DOWN. This book is NOT her typical writing....it is boring, plain...and non-poetic. I was delighted to see that she was writing for YA---and hoped to pass this book on to a student, but now that I have SLOWLY suffered through the book (hoping at any moment her writing would appear)....I say run. AWAY. I don't think we can blame the translator on this book....we can just say that she was trying too hard to fit into the YA genre..which is, sadly, not for her.

Book is about a young boy---who goes with his grandmother into the Amazonian Jungles to search for the Beast (which they never really uncover)...and simply (so easy, in fact) find a indigenous tribe and help it combat civilisation.....quite simple. No worries, no suspense....all a yawn. Along the way Alex develops a friendship (?)...love?? with another traveler's daughter....and at the end it is OBVIOUS they will meet again for another adventure in the Himilayas. Sigh. Just don't bother.
