First duology of the year! It was cute, my only hangup was the age gap but once I got over that I did enjoy the story.

Rising had an awful lot of coincidences, which this book took further into Mary Sue territory. There were some nice moments as a reader, as well as some that seemed out of character

This book surprised me! I didn't think there was much story left to tell, but I enjoyed every page of this sequel!

Reading this made me feel like a fairytale princess.

Specifically, Shrek’s Princess Fiona right after she knocks Robin Hood unconscious for being annoying.

This book is a great example of why character flaws are vital and why Mary Sues should be put to death by any self-respecting editor. Rebecca Ross isn’t a bad writer. She proves this in the Cartier POV chapters. Unfortunately, she then contradicts this assertion any time we switch to Brienna Mary Sue’s POV. There’s not much to work with when YOUR MC IS JUST SO PERFECT AND EVERYONE LOVES HER AND SHE CAN LITERALLY DO NO WRONG.

NOT THAT I TOOK THIS WASTE OF TIME PERSONALLY OR ANYTHING.

This duology has reminded me how much I love Rebecca Ross' books. I think I would read anything written by her! Both books in the duology were 4 stars for me, but in my opinion, the first book was a little bit better. Now it's time to patiently wait for her to release another book.

I love Brienna as a character and her interactions with most other characters. But I'm ot a fan of the romance. Feels wrong to me that he was her teacher when she was a young teen and he was in his 20s. He could have just as well been a fellow student and closer to her in age.
