I have to say I didn't like this book at first. Andie sounded like a teenager rather than a 25 year old lawyer desperate to make partner. I also thought from the blurb that the book would be like the film What Happens in Vegas so the detailed story about what happened in Vegas was a bit of a shock. Finally, one of my pet peeves, the book is written in the first person.

However, I stuck with it and I'm glad I did. Although Andie still sounded more like a teenager than a grown woman at time she did grow on me. I also liked the bait and switch with the brothers at the start.

I think the period after Vegas needed more "showing" to explain why Ruby and Candice acted the way they did - I didn't really understand them because I didn't "see" Andie behave that way.

Overall, I enjoyed the gentle romance and look forward to reading more about some of the characters if she makes this a series. Just checked and it is a series - good!

Oh yeah 5*!

It's a lovely story, witty, sexy and a tad bit sad.
It was laugh out loud funny and then at times it made me mellow.
Fell in love with both Andie and Mack straight away.
You know when you adore all the good characters and hate the bad ones.
Every person coming in to the story got a good introduction.
I really don't know much(or more like nothing) about ranchers, so I kind of enjoyed the description of the farm life as well.
And the cowboys ;) Mack oh Mack... there's just something about them :)

All in all 'Shine not burn' stole my heart with its simplicity and charm.

Recommended read!

This was going to be MUCH higher if it wasn't for the terrible knock-down fights and brawling at a family BBQ. Ugh.

Also our shiny spined lawyer turned into a HUGE damsel in distress throughout the novel and it is always a pet peeve of mine when authors create this strong badass intelligent woman and then turn her into a spineless character by the time the hero saunters in.

Sweet Home Alabama vibes... Sweet, funny and hearty.

Andie is a young lawyer who works hard to succeed. Her life is controlled by a very detailed life plan, which doesn't include happiness - only independence and success.
But for her best friends Bachelorette weekend in Vegas, she leaves Andie the lawyer behind and brings the Party Girl from college on.

At the Blackjack table she meets Cowboy Mack, who's there for his brothers bachelor party. Their chemistry is instant, at the table and in bed - and for something Andie doesn't remember when she wakes up hungover the next morning.

2 years later Andie is engaged to Bradley, another idiot who fits her lifeplan. But before she can get married she has to find Mack and undo what happened in Vegas.
But then Mack wants to keep her and she kind of quickly adjusts and falls in love with his life. But Bradley is on his way out because he won't let her go because she fits his life-plan...

Andie is relatable, how she tried to make the best of her life, though I got somewhat angry when she changed for worse.
I' am normally not one for cowboys but Mack was so good. He's hot, charming and funny, determined and dominant.

I did have some ups and downs, with the downs not being bad, just not my favourite parts...

The two of them together are something. In Vegas the chemistry was instantly on, later I needed some time to warm up to the idea of them but their banter was on point. Maybe it was the fact that Mack knew for two years that he had a wife somewhere out there and was in love but never tried to contact her was just somewhat too strange.

The Showdown was somewhat over the top, Hannah accusing Andie of stealing her man and her life including fist fights and Bradley claiming Andie. But it fits the atmosphere and comes naturally.
The moment of decision again was not that good but the vows in the end made up for that.

Definetly on for the next one in this series...

Absolutely loved this story! It was actually pretty funny and I found myself laughing out loud at some parts. I'm crossing my fingers that we might get a second book about some of the other characters. This was my first Elle Casey book and it definitely won't be my last!

This book has me laughing so hard in more than one spot, tears were coming. I enjoy married in Vegas stories and the instant love is something that I have no issues with. I really liked Mack, Andie was a good lead but I did want to smack her a few times. Supporting characters were enjoyable.

I've given this book 5 stars because although it could be considered light, easy reading, it was so damn funny I laughed out loud whilst revelling in the romance and great characters. This is the first book I've read by Elle Casey and I loved her writing style, the witty dialogue and characters with depth.

Andie is an uptight lawyer with a rigid plan for life. She dates men for their ability to help achieve her life plan goals and end up with idiots. She is coerced into a bachelorette party with her two best friends in Vegas, where she meets Mack, gets supremely drunk and marries him. She remembers nothing. This pesky marriage certificate comes back to bite Andie and brings Mack back into her life. Mack is something to behold from the description, a cowboy with depth. Andie is able to let go of her tight-laced ways with him and be her true self. The story is a brilliant one, engaging from the outset. I am looking forward to reading Book two.

Shine Not Burn is a book about a sexy cowboy, and hot shot lawyer getting married in Vegas after getting drunk one night. But Andie, the lawyer goes back to the city the next thinking he left her, and didn't remember them getting married. Until two years later she's about to marry a man, but can't because she was told she was already married.

This is a crazy drama about a women who just wants to find love, and a man who is willing to help her with that, but she's too stubborn to realize it.

This book had me in stitches throughout most of it. I mean it was seriously funny. The only thing that made think the book was only okay, and not good was the fact that I just personally didn't like the heroine. She just got on my nerves so much that I truly didn't like her at all. But it was a nice fun read that had me laughing a lot.

Would have been 5, except there were multiple times, right up util the last few pages, when the main character was acting like a complete and total idiot. I liked the story line, it was a fun concept, but I wanted to shake her!!
