When the Wind Chimes was the perfect cosy romance!

Kaitlyn travels to the Hawaiian island of Kauai, to spend Christmas with her sister and nephew. She has had a rough year, with the loss of her brother-in-law to cancer and also with her boyfriend cheating on her and has really lost her passion to paint as a result. In a sliding doors moment she finds herself in a taxi with Lee, a drop-dead gorgeous guy! She soon discovers Lee is a local celebrity and a bit mysterious.

This was such a heartwarming story and I could read it all year around (even though it is set at Christmas). I loved the characters and the story was really sweet. It definitely has the makings of a hallmark movie.

If you are after a light romance for the Christmas season, I highly recommend this one. It will have you hooked from the first chapter and the writing style is very easy to digest. The story had my smiling, close to tears and cheering for joy!

Thank you to Mary Ting for providing me with a copy of When the Wind Chimes in exchange for an honest review.

Kaitlyn Summers is heartbroken. When she receives an invitation to spend Christmas with her family on the Hawaiian island of Kauai, she feels it may be the perfect medicine. She throws herself into helping her sister's struggling art gallery, even taking a temporary job for extra money by looking after a little girl from her nephew's school. She also begins to paint again, something she's been unable to do since her breakup. It's tempting to stay on Kauai, but she has obligations back in Los Angeles. Life gets more complicated when circumstances keep putting her close to Leonardo Medici. Not only is he drop-dead gorgeous, he's a local celebrity. But Kaitlyn can't shake the feeling he's hiding something. Should she believe the rumors that he's romancing half the island's single women? Or is the random sound of wind chimes when he's close-by a sign that an angel is near and the secret to her happily ever after? (Taken from Goodreads)

Keep in mind that everyone has their own opinion. This review is only my opinion, and you may have your own, different one. I would take into consideration what I say, but do not make a decision about the book solely based off of this review. Additionally, the author sent me this book as a free review copy; however, this did not influence my review. This is 100% my honest opinion. Let's begin:

I don't normally read romance novels, not because I have anything against them, but because I naturally gravitate towards fantasy. However, when I was offered a copy of this book I accepted due to having worked with the author for four other books (which are very good and you should definitely check out- they are the ISAN books). I'm very glad that I made that decision. I ended up learning that I am a complete sucker for this story.

Though I haven't read much romance, I feel like the author did do a good job at keeping this one fairly unique. Of course, it does have some clichés, but every book I've ever read has no matter the genre. For the most part, though, this book stayed away from those and Ting did her own thing. I liked the plot and how everything developed. The slow burn had me wanting to scream at our two love interests to finally kiss or confess their feelings or literally anything that shows their feelings for one another.

I adored the characters. The mysteriousness of Leonardo certainly kept me intrigued and, as his personality was unfolded, I just kept liking him more and more. Kaitlyn is such a cutie and sweetheart. She's a very easy protagonist to love- I basically loved her from the very first page. Of course, they are even better combined. The kids were adorable. I kind of wish I could babysit for them in real life because that would be so fun (I am definitely down to play some Unicorns vs. Skeletons!). My heart went out to Abby. She is such a strong character, and someone I really want to protect from more bad things.

Overall, this novel may have just gotten me into romance. I fell in love with the story and the characters in it; Mary Ting writes an excellent slow burn romance! I found out the day I finished reading that there was going to be another book, this time about Abby, and I cannot be more excited for that to release.

Thank you so much to Mary Ting and Angie from the Instagram page @marytingnews for the copy of this book!

Definitely a sweet story... I could totally see this becoming a Hallmark movie! I love a great meet cute and this book had an fantastic one. And I just love when kids get involved in the matchmaking process (whether they know that is what they are doing or now).... it some how makes the whole thing seem a lot sweeter. Unfortunately it had a really slow start for me, which is why I only gave it 3.5 stars.... once you get past the adorable meet it takes a bit before the rest of the story started to capture my full attention.
