I read this book almost as a favor to my friend, I genuinely thought I'd like it because I tend to like triggering books (I'm a gluten for punishment) This book goes through the life of four friends from their 20s to their 50s, the main character Jude has childhood trauma that dictates his life. This book is suppose to be about friendship and growth (I guess??) This book was just obnoxious. The characters weren't likable, and all have the author's voice. The author tells more than shows and will ramble on for 50 pages about the same thing yet give us nothing about long awaited events such as
when Jude and Willem finally get together, and then when Willem dies
I really hated this book. I genuinely don't even want to give it a review.

This book is definitely not for everyone, but for anyone looking for a hard-hitting, emotional narrative which they can become fully invested in - this is the book for you. At the baseline, this is a book which follows the life of Jude, introduced as a college student, and his 3 best friends. As you read the book, you get to grow old with the characters. Within this, the author explores how someone can be so much more than what meets the eye. A deeply emotional read which is so well written, there are moments where you almost wish it wasn’t.

before you start reading this book, i encourage you to make a list with all the bad things that could happen to someone. as some of those things happen, go back to your list and try to make it a bit more light-hearted because as the book goes on you will need it.
a very dark story, but with shines of light in between. i wouldn't say is an enjoyable experience but at least it wasn't as graphic as i thought it was going to be when i read some reviews from the book.
the next part might be consired a spoiler but it doesn't say anything really explicit, no names involved, but if you want everything to be a surprise...
one thing that i didn't like is how the author used romance to bring happiness, self assurance and healing to the characters, when i thought the book was going to be more about friendship. there is friendship in this couple, but i would've prefered if the same trust and reliability and inconditional acceptance had been shown through the light of friendship.
btw sorry if i made any mistakes grammatically or something, english isn't my first language
