That was exhausting and I only made it halfway through. Yet halfway was their entire education, their thoroughly shallow and petulant relationships, and being trapped in side Quentin’s head. I get that all of that is a statement, but that could have been paced better.

I did watch the TV series before reading the books which might have been the better option for me. I'm not sure I would have watched the series if I read the books first. I am usually never happy with the on-screen versions of a story. However, I didn't want that to influence how I felt about the books when I read them, and I was still curious what was kept from the books and what was adapted for TV. We meet Quentin while he is still in high school and see how he just feels he doesn't fit in even with his friend Julia. When a real school for magic test them both only Quentin is accepted. That was the start to his headfirst full dive into the metaphorical looking glass. His journey with magic and making new friends was a long and hard road. In the end Quentin ended up finding a place he felt he belonged. Well right up until he messed that up as well. An before he could even really deal with what he just did we find out that Fillory a magical world he read about in books was actually real. This is just a very basic summary with minimal spoilers for this book or the series. It is worth the read I love both versions the books, and the TV series.
