Really enjoyed this book in the series, with Darian finally working herself out of her fear and insecurities, fixing her relationship with Tyler, and becoming a little less stubborn than usual. I also really liked the villain and the ends that were left open for more books. And the end fight scene was great! So of course, the book had to leave on a massive cliffhanger. Go figure!

Against the Dawn, Shaede Assassin #4, by Amanda Bonilla
Grade: A

“Darian, there is no man, no magic, no force of nature in this world that could keep me from loving you.”

Once again Amanda Bonilla has delivered an amazing urban fantasy novel with Against the Dawn, the fourth installment of her Shaede Assassin series. Against the Dawn picks up a few weeks after Crave the Darkness ended. Darian is back in Seattle from her time in O Anel and is slowly picking up the pieces of her life after being a prisoner of Kade, as well as dealing with her relationships with Tyler and Xander. Darian is a shell of the assassin she used to be but she is determined to get back to her old life and makes Tyler put her right to work. A person from Darian’s past is her new assignment and what seemed like an easy task in now putting Darian in more danger than she ever thought possible.

To say I am a fan of this series is a huge understatement and I was so excited to be able to read and review Against the Dawn. Crave the Darkness left us with a lot of unanswered questions as well as wondering if Darian would be able to heal from the injuries that kade inflicted on her. I was so nervous that Darian would lose some of her edge but it was wonderful to see her build herself back up to the amazing smart ass/bad ass that she is. We get to see Darian deal with the ramifications of her actions from the last three books, as well as how she is dealing with Tyler and Xander and the multitude of emotions they both have on her.

I didn’t know exactly what to expect from this book and I was worried that a lot of it would be Darian putting herself and her relationships back together. I was happily surprised to see her go back to work and get to solve some unanswered questions as well as kick some ass in the process. There are a lot of familiar faces in this book as well as some new ones like Steve the Werewolf, which had me dying of laughter. There was never a dull moment in Against the Dawn and I could not stop reading until I finished the very last page.

Amanda Bonilla has created a very unique world with this series and each book gets better and better. I am always so excited to read about Darian but find myself getting sad as I near the end of the book because the adventures that Bonilla takes the reader on are addicting and I never want to leave. Like the rest of this series, this book is full of twists and turns that will have you guessing until the very end and even then keep you guessing and wondering what will happen next and when can I get the next book. Xander will be getting his own novella in November 2014 which I am dying to get my hands on and I think it will be great to see this world from a different view point. If you are a fan of urban fantasy you must pick up this series and I promise you will not be disappointed.

It's been a month full of books with humongous cliff hanger endings. I am sad to report AGAINST THE DAWN is on that list. CRAVE THE DARKNESS left Darian pretty destroyed emotionally and escaping to O Anel. AGAINST THE DAWN starts off with her facing her life again.

No body expects Darian to be unaffected when she gets back and she really isn't. Thankfully she has a lot of people there to help her when she needs it. On top of that, someone from her past shows up and is set on a path Darian doesn't want to go along with but has to to get what she wants. Little does she know his reason for jumping back into her life are far worse than she could have imagined.

The love triangle that shouldn't be, continues in book 4. Darian has made it clear that she has picked Ty but Xander refuses to listen. Although his rule is in question he refuses to leave unless Darian goes with him and that isn't going to happen. Xander is convinced that he needs to get Tyler out of Darian's life and he uses past events to try and accomplish that. Unfortunately it leaves Darian unprotected at the worst possible time. Drama, drama, sweet drama. You cant help but get sucked into it all.

AGAINST THE DAWN was emotional, drama filled and suspenseful. The action was plentiful and if you were hoping to finally get a glimpse into the Jinn you're in luck. Just when things start to smooth out another obstacle jumps up to halt its progress. I have a feeling book 5 just might be more emotionally draining on the characters than CRAVE THE DARKNESS was. Bring it on!
