This was a wonderful book. I had a fabulous time reading it. The characters were amazing and the relationships were solid. The plot was good and the writing style was fun.

I was so excited to read this, but it just fell flat. The character development from the movie was entirely undone which I do understand to a degree. However, the development in this book was mostly done off page and it was not nearly thorough enough. I feel that the only character who had decent on page development was Charlotte. Naveen’s development was done entirely off page, and Tiana was very out of character and flat. The two of them hardly interacted at all. The story has almost no tension and was going in circles the majority of the book. The big reveal took way too long to get to in comparison to its quick resolution  which didn’t feel nearly as emotional as it should have been.

I listened to this on audiobook and there we every obvious cuts, edits ana re-records that took me out of the story.

This was one of my favorite twisted tales! Had a great mix of the original movie with new things added. I like that it delved deeper into the relationship between Tiana and Lotty and the challenges Tiana faces as a black woman.

This book was an absolutely amazing and emotional ride. As soon as I heard this book was coming out I was ecstatic as I loved Princess And The Frog it even improved the flaws of the orginal movie by allowing Naveen and Tiana to be humans the whole book and for Dr Faciller's motive and backstory to be clearer.
My only nitpick is that the pacing felt weird in some parts and a lot of plot convenient stuff that happened but I won't spoil. I will say though Louie deserves better we didn't even get a big enough description of what he looks like as a human, fingers crossed they show him in the colouring book but probably not.
Apart from that this book is a 100% five stars all around.
As I said overall so much more better than the movie as it bothers to analyse the character of Tiana and her friends and family. Out of all of the side characters I think Lottie was my favourite again no spoilers but she really came out of her shell for Tiana and grew a lot. I also really like the parts where Tiana taught her about her white privilege and that it's important to be aware of it.
Tianas arc was also beautiful as from personal experience even though I'm Biracial and not black growing up in this toxic society that excludes marginalised folk has made me think and that I am not worthy of receiving others. Its great to see Tiana throughout the book slowly learn to share her independence and the fact that ids ok to not just need help but want it.
The themes of grief and letting go absolutely shine throughout this book and I could definitely relate to Tiana's pain as I lost my Dad at 13 and wish nothing more than to have him back. It's beautiful to have the message that its important to accept when its someones time and that you must let a soul fly far away.
I also liked that fact that despite this being a YA book all the mystery elements felt Black Mirrorish and extremely creepy. Every spooky scene gave me chills down my spine it was great. If your a fan of Disney and Black Mirror you will absolutely adore this book.
Overall this book is absolutely amazing spooky Twisted tale. Highly recommend especially if your a Princess and the frog fan or someone who wanted a proper story of Tiana where shes not a frog for the whole book.

Beautiful flowery language. Perfectly in theme. So much care and respect and love for the culture. The cultures! Straight people who deserve rights for once! I try not to gush in these reviews but this book is just as lovely and wonderful as the movie, however the book is a lot better! It's aware of the movie's flaws and acknowledges them while still telling a seamless smooth story. It still manages to be Disney, which is only a bad thing for a few chapters
(When Tiana runs from Roselande. What a Disney sitcom-y, trying to stretch the story a little bit more so the episode can be a round 22 minutes kind of move.)
, but doesn't shy away from or cover up truths. Love love love. I love it here. So happy.

What war was her dad fighting in? Because it wasn't WW1. He died in 1921 in Belgrade, Serbia. What the hell was he doing in Serbia in 1921? The best I could find was the Russian Civil War??? I'm sure it was to establush that he was in her life for much longer than the movie showed but that was my one major inconsistency. Unless this is a different timeline where WW1 happened later?
