I’ve watched the Amazon Prime adaptation of the comics. So far I like both. The comic does not go into as much depth on the characters’ emotions specifically hoe Mark felt finally getting powers. Did he feel left out before? Lonely that his father is always leaving? I can infer that, but perhaps because I’ve already seen the TV adaptation.
We learn a lot about Mark’s dad solely from his behavior (constantly leaving to save others, absent from his family, high expectations for his son’s powers once they finally manifest and requiring Mark to get a fast food job to “build character.”) Mark’s mom also shows us a very reserved housewife Image, but she’s colored in blue/purple, which makes me think she’s secretly lonely, anxious, and sad. She always asks Mark and her husband how their day was, but no one asks her how her day was.
I like the high school vs teen super hero balancing act Mark has to learn. I’m curious to see what challenges come upset the balance.
he carries a man wearing a bomb to the arctic and watches him die. Mark acts nonchalant afterwards but I’m interested to see how the weight of superhero responsibilities and sacrifices affect him later. He also fights aliens. I think the awe of getting powers and fighting is still high and the burden hasn’t hit him quite yet.
