Ein wundervolles Buch. Der Schreibstil ist großartig. Die ungewöhnliche Situation, in der der Hauptcharakter sich befindet wird sehr zugänglich und nachvollziehbar gemacht und mit Weisheiten gefüllt. Außerdem fesselte mich Der Konflikt zwischen Joe und dem Pfarrer (Religion und Logik) sehr und ich konnte das Buch nicht mehr weglegen. Eine absolute Empfehlung.

I guess it's an Apocalyptic tale. Set mainly in the "now", a stranger arrives - washed up on the beach - and then a few days later, a whale - also stuck on the shore. During the course of the story we discover how the stranger came to be on a beach near a little English village in the middle of nowhere; and the significance of the whale; and why three generations later there is a "Festival of the Whale" held in this same little town every Christmas.
It's a hopeful tale. One that I hope would play out should the dominoes ever fall in a way that creates a similar situation on our planet. I wasn't too sure about the ending... But that might just be me :)

Not what I expected. And unfortunately, a completely plausible (except, maybe the whale bit) end-of-the-world scenario.
Een boek met mooie inzichten over hoe de wereld soms in elkaar steekt. Bijzonder om te lezen over een situatie waar we nu inzitten in een boek uit 2015. Ik ben geen fan van de Nederlandse vertaling, het werkt net niet lekker met de schrijfstijl (al heb ik de Engelse niet gelezen).
stom einde, hoezo wil hij haar nu ineens wel?!! pijnlijk duidelijk door een man geschreven hier en daar, grenst aan het seksistische
